NeuShield's Mirror Shielding works the exact opposite of how Shadow Copy works. Shadow Copy allows the original file to get modified, but creates a backup of the changes before it gets modified.
Here are the key advantages of NeuShield over Shadow Copy:
- Reliability. Shadow Copy, unlike NeuShield, simply works like a real-time backup. However, if it runs out of space or if the backup data is lost or damaged then it is not able to recover. Security companies that use Shadow Copy for their recovery are using it as a stopgap for damage that is done before detection. However, when a threat goes undetected they are typically unable to recover all the data. Also, up to 90% of ransomware delete Shadow Copies before encrypting data, so it may not be the best technology to rely on for recovery.
- Performance. While, NeuShield has virtually instantaneous recovery speeds, restoring with Shadow Copy is similar to restoring from a local backup. The more data needs to be recovered the slower the recovery time.
